I'm trying to send mail and I get a 550 not local host error.

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

'Email recipient name' on 8/4/2011 11:33 AM
Server error: '550 not local host "email-address-here", not a gateway'

You will normally see this because the box labeled  "My outgoing server requires authentication" is not checked.

Outlook 2002/2003

  1. Start Outlook and click on Tools on the menu bar
  2. Select the E-mail Accounts option. This will open a new window
  3. Select "View or change and existing account" and click Next
  4. Click the More Settings button
  5. Click the Outgoing Server tab
  6. Put a check mark in the box labeled  "My outgoing server requires authentication"
  7. Click OK
  8. Click Next and then Finish
  9. Restart Outlook

Outlook 2007

  1. Start Outlook and click on Tools on the menu bar
  2. Select the Accounts Settings option
  3. Double-click the email account
  4. Click the More Settings button
  5. Click the Outgoing Server tab
  6. Put a chec kmark in the box labeled  "My outgoing server requires authentication"
  7. Click OK
  8. Click Next and then Finish
  9. Restart Outlook


Outlook 2010/2013

  1. Start Outlook and click on File on the menu bar
  2. Select the Accounts Settings (Account and Social Network Settings in Outlook 2013)option
  3. Double-click the email account
  4. Click the More Settings button
  5. Click the Outgoing Server tab
  6. Put a check mark in the box labeled  "My outgoing server requires authentication"
  7. Click OK
  8. Click Next and then Finish
  9. Restart Outlook
